Originally built in 1961, the Tulsa International Airport (TUL) main ticket counters had not been updated in many years and were aging both aesthetically and technologically. Tulsa Airports Improvement Trust (TAIT) — the governing body responsible for managing and operating TUL — brought on Narrate to lead a renovation. The complete re-design includes the front customer-facing ticketing counters for six airlines as well as the reconfiguration of associated Air Traffic Organization (ATO) services and baggage handling equipment behind the scenes. Because of the technical nature of the project, it was crucial that the design team work closely with Tulsa Airport representatives and airline vendors to accomplish the final design.
The updated and streamlined spaces serve both customers and airline employees. New recessed counter locations keep lines out of pedestrian traffic zones and increase customer queuing space. Upgraded IT/communications and the relocation of the baggage conveyor circulations enhance efficiency and offer a more organized, functional work environment. Design details include new counters, terrazzo flooring, ceilings, lighting, and fire protection.
Travelers will now have a modern and convenient check-in experience that equals the level of service TAIT strives to provide throughout TUL.
