The Osage Nation Legislative Building marks a historic milestone in the Nation’s architectural and civic legacy: a permanent, purpose‑built home for the Osage Nation Congress that embodies sovereignty, clarity of purpose, and cultural identity.

Narrate Design is honored to partner with the Osage Nation on this significant project, contributing thoughtful design leadership to a building that will serve elected representatives, staff, and the community for generations.

For nearly two decades, the Osage Nation Congress has operated in shared or repurposed spaces. With the Legislative Building, the Nation takes a defining step toward a dignified center for democracy—one that reflects the values, strength, and aspirations of the Wahzhazhe people.

Designed with Purpose, Rooted in Representation

From its bold canopy to its carefully organized interior, the Osage Nation Legislative Building reflects both the function and the spirit of governance.

Twelve structural columns stand at the entrance—symbolizing the unity and representation of all 12 members of Congress. This architectural gesture anchors the building both visually and conceptually in the Nation’s governance structure.

Inside, each space is purposefully crafted, including:

A spacious main chamber for legislative sessions

A committee meeting room for collaboration and deliberation

A central dining area and kitchen to support gatherings and civic hospitality

Individual offices for each member of Congress, supporting focused work and constituent engagement

Sited along Circle Road on the Osage Nation government campus in Pawhuska, OK, the building thoughtfully complements adjacent facilities, including the Welcome Center and WELA Childcare facility (also designed by Narrate), reinforcing the campus’s civic corridor.

Throughout the process, Narrate Design partnered closely with Osage Nation leaders and community voices to shape a building that honors tradition while meeting contemporary needs. The result is architecture that speaks clearly of sovereignty, service, and a future shaped by Osage hands.

Project Funding + Significance

In 2025, the Ninth Osage Nation Congress approved a $4.6 million supplemental appropriation, bringing the total project funding to more than $10.5 million. Sponsored by Congressman John Maker and signed into law by Principal Chief Geoffrey Standing Bear, this funding ensures the realization of the fully featured design—a testament to community investment in civic infrastructure.

This building will be more than a workplace; it will be a landmark of self‑determination, a daily reminder of Osage Nation governance rooted in place and purpose.
