“For almost 70 years, the Student Union has been an iconic building on this campus. We were ecstatic to give it the facelift it needed so it can continue to serve in that capacity for many years to come.”

- Tracie Brown, Interim Director for the Student Union

Student Union Cupola

Oklahoma State University

Following the conclusion of the Edmon Low Library Cupola restoration project, OSU asked Narrate along with our preservation consultant Walter Sedovic Architects to provide the same careful care and attention to the restoration of the Student Union Cupola.

Restoring the copper cupola was a painstaking process. The dome’s hand-spun copper balustrade and railing were replaced with nearly an identical but more durable and weather-resistant material. Each spindle was 18 pieces of spun copper soldered together. The team searched for several months to locate a coppersmith who could spin the copper pieces to recreate the spindles — a lost art from the past.

The addition of LED lighting showcases the completed restoration.
