Middle School is a rite of passage we all remember, and whether those memories are cherished or rather forgotten is for another time. But we can all agree. . . it is a time of transition.
The Middle School itself needed a transition — a transition that included a little more space! Space for students and staff. As the only middle school in the district, they had struggled to support district growth.
Our design team gathered input from administrators, teachers, parents, and even students to truly understand the vision, needs, and desires of the school community. We listened when they expressed their desire that the addition be responsive and respectful of the existing exterior as well as timeless and economical.
– A new entry plaza provides informal outdoor seating for students, staff, and parents.
– The two-story classroom addition, designed as a best area of refuge, allows the entire student population to take shelter during times of inclement Oklahoma weather.
– A music hallway connects the Orchestra, Band, Percussion, and Choir rooms —creating a new performing arts wing. Raised ceiling heights and acoustical treatments significantly improve the performance of all music classrooms.
– An expanded gymnasium features a competition-size court, which gives the school the ability to host competitions and comfortably seat the entire student body for all-school assemblies.
