Tulsa Airport International Customs Facility

Topping Off Ceremony

On May 8, 2025, Tulsa International Airport celebrated a significant milestone: the final steel beam was raised on the new International Customs Facility. This “Topping Out” marked real progress on a project that will soon allow commercial air carriers to offer nonstop international flights out of TUL for the first time ever.

The 45,000-square-foot expansion connects to the existing terminal and is expected to wrap up by late 2025, with operations possibly beginning as early as Spring 2026.

Narrate Design is proud to lead the design for this exciting project, with Flintco managing construction. The ceremony included remarks from Alexis Higgins, CEO of Tulsa Airports Improvement Trust; Tyler Sappington, Project Manager at Narrate Design; and Dave Kollman, President of Flintco’s Central Region.

“Today’s topping out ceremony represents more than just a construction milestone; it’s a symbol of the growth and opportunity ahead for Tulsa. With this new facility, we will soon be opening the door to convenient international travel options that our community has long been asking for.”

The International Customs Facility will create a smoother experience for travelers flying nonstop from Tulsa to top international destinations, such as Mexico and the Caribbean. Right now, an average of 115 passengers depart from Tulsa to Mexico every day. Mexico makes up 32% of TUL’s international traffic—more than any other country.

To support this demand, Tulsa International Airport is working to secure nonstop service to high-interest destinations through both domestic and international carriers.

The total project cost is $41 million, funded by the Tulsa Airports Improvement Trust and FAA grants.
