Constructing and operating buildings consume more of the world’s energy and resources than any other endeavor. More than ever, people are talking about the importance of sustainability. At Selser Schaefer Architects, it’s an internal conversation we’ve had since our beginning. We believe green design is simply part of good design. Sustainability is not only smart for our planet, it’s smart for our clients as well, often resulting in a more comfortable interior environment and reduced energy costs.
We designed our first geothermal project in 1997 for the U.S. Postal Service in Shawnee, Oklahoma. However, it wasn’t until the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) developed the LEED Certification rating system that our industry had an objective way to measure a building’s sustainability. A member of the USGBC since 2004, Selser Schaefer Architects has nine LEED accredited professionals and several LEED projects in our body of work. Not all our projects are submitted for LEED certification, but it is safe to say all feature green design.
