Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa invited members of the community to celebrate the opening of its new Hardesty Service Center on September 22, 2022.
The new 23,250-square-foot facility sits right next to the Tandy YMCA off 51st and Yale. It will allow the organization to help more people across the Tulsa metro area, with the goal being to deliver one million meals per year, tripling the number of meals delivered in the previous building. The non-profit outgrew its previous space after more than 30 years, adding to an increased need for senior citizens. Now, the organization will serve the Tulsa community in a new state-of-the-art facility.
CEO and President Katie Oatsvall says oftentimes, meal delivery is the only in-person contact for clients during the day.
“The aging population is the fastest growing in the country, and Oklahoma and Tulsa are no exception to that. So, we see our need increasing constantly. And being able to be in this new facility which has expanded our internal reach four times allows us to have that same ripple effect throughout the community,” Oatsvall said.
The event featured an outdoor ceremony with remarks from civic leaders, funders, and individuals with personal connections to the mission of Meals on Wheels and a ribbon cutting, followed by an open house and tours offered to guests.
