Meals on Wheels Metro Tulsa hosted a Beam Signing and Topping Out ceremony to mark the progress of the Hardesty Service Center’s structural steel frame. Congratulations to our partners Myers Cherry Construction, Bennett Steel, 360 Engineering Group, and Salt Food Group on this exciting milestone!
Topping out ceremonies have been around for hundreds of years and are based on Scandinavian folklore. An evergreen tree accompanies the beam as a good luck charm steeped in superstition. It suits the holiday season but really pays homage to the tree-dwelling spirits displaced during construction.
When complete, the new facility will incorporate an office headquarters for Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers as well as a large-scale commercial kitchen/work zone for the production, packaging, and distribution of meals, allowing the organization to increase its served meals capacity from 300,000 per year to 1,000,000.
