Sangre Ridge was built in 1980 with the concept of fostering collaboration. As the form of this much-anticipated renovation and addition was discussed, community collaboration was again a focus.
Conversations with teachers, administrators, parents, and members of the neighborhood helped identify the needs and desires of the growing student population.
The exterior was refreshed and brightened with cream brick and pops of color.
A new addition houses the multipurpose gymnasium with a rock-climbing wall and a stage for musical performances and school assemblies — all created to showcase the talents of the mighty Ridge Runners! The addition was designed to be secured separately to give the community after-hours access.
Open space between the new addition and the existing building created a kid-friendly courtyard. It’s a tucked-away space to play and ponder — where the youngest students can run, ride their trikes, or simply enjoy a little fresh air.
The cafeteria and media center were relocated and reconfigured to better accommodate student needs. The redesigned media center is now a flexible, light-filled, and inviting space for a variety of student activities, including just kicking back with a good book.
Acoustic panels in the cafeteria provide a colorful feature, reduce noise, and limit reverberation in the generously sized space.
